UTC Mocs logoAnother big inning kept the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team from picking up its first win of the season Saturday.
After an eight-run inning for Fordham on Friday, the Lady Mocs (0-3) surrendered six runs in the sixth inning to Long Island University-Brooklyn in an 8-6 loss on the second day of the UCF Knights Invitational.
UTC struck first with two runs in the third inning, but LIU-Brooklyn tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth. Their six runs the next inning came on four hits and a UTC error.
The Lady Mocs tried to rally in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter Jenny Garcia was hit by a pitch and senior outfielder Kaiti Dutton doubled to set up Alyssa Taylor’s two-run single. She and Sam Taylor also scored, but Marina Wilkerson struck out and Tyler Templet lined out to end the rally.
Dutton went 2-for-3 and scored two runs in the loss, and Criket Blanco and Alyssa Taylor each had a pair of RBIs.
