Most music evolves throughout the years, but there are some styles that seem to stay pretty close to their roots. That normally depends on the genre of music or the preference of the band members, but when you can find a way to perfect that old familiar groove, there is absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to the script.
Jacksonville, Florida’s ensemble, Tedeschi Trucks Band, cranks out a blend of blues and rock-n-roll that is very reminiscent of a sound that started long before their generation. However, the fresh energy that this band brings to the traditional sound almost guarantees that they will carry the torch for years to come.
Having met through their music circle, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi fell for each other and decided to tie the knot in 2001. The only problem was that they were both the leaders of their own individual bands (as well as Derek also being in the Allman Brothers Band), so they only found time to spend together when they were off the road or through the occasional music collaboration. So in 2009, they both announced a hiatus from their individual bands and decided to join forces, basically marrying their two bands together to form the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
With anywhere from ten to eleven members strong and three albums under their belt, Tedeschi and Trucks have built one of the hardest working bands in their field, passionately leading a charge to keep blues and rock-n-roll fusion in the spotlight. Combining one of the best lead guitarists in the business in Trucks and the soulful and powerful vocal deliverance from Tedeschi, they seem to complement each other like … well, much like a marriage.
Still celebrating the release of the 2013 album, Made Up Mind, the Tedeschi Trucks Band will make its way back to the Tivoli Theatre for a Chattanooga performance on Tuesday, January 21.
