Program helps particpants through grief

Due to the success of the program in the past two years, Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church is offering the 12-week GriefShare program for a third year beginning Sunday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m.

“We’ve seen how people who do the program rediscover hope for the future,” said Margaret Ferguson, associate pastor for congregational care at SMPC. “We had a lot of people ask us to do it again.”

The program is open to anyone in the community, not just SMPC members. At least half of the participants in each of the past two years were nonmembers, said Ferguson.

She said participating in a faith-based program such as GriefShare is helpful because faith is a vital part of the healing process.

“So many people who are grieving are angry with God,” Ferguson said. “It’s good to question God in helping to understand.”
