Change is in the air at Northgate Mall. As several new stores move in, a longstanding mall mainstay is calling it quits.
J.C. Penney announced Jan. 15 that it will be closing its store at the mall.
The J.C. Penney space is not owned by Northgate Mall owner CBL and Associates Properties Inc., but by a third party, said CBL spokesperson Katie Reinsmidt. The store is expected to close later this year and CBL will work with the third-party owner to advance its plans for the future of the space, she said.
“It fits perfectly with the redevelopment plans we already have underway at Northgate,” Reinsmidt said of Penney’s closing, adding that Burlington Coat Factory is set to open at the mall later this year. “It gives us another opportunity to enhance the attractiveness of the center overall.”
Old Navy has closed its location at Oak Park Town Center and is holding a soft opening for its new store at Northgate Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 6-9 p.m.
