What began as a simple burglary of a storage unit on Georgetown Road quickly escalated after the owner confronted the would-be robbers, causing them to flee and nearly run over the owner of the units, police say.

Two Hamilton County residents have been charged in burglaries of storage units on Georgetown Road, according to a release from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say the owner of the storage units confronted Justin Robert Barnes, 32, and Daisla Kristine Chapman, 23, at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the two drove off and Chapman, who was driving, almost struck the owner with the vehicle.

Warrants were obtained last week and the two surrendered to Bradley County officers on Wednesday, the release stated.

Barnes is charged with burglary, theft over $1,000 and criminal responsibility for the conduct of another, the release stated.

Chapman is charged with burglary, theft over $1,000 and aggravated assault.

Both have been booked into the Bradley County Jail.
