PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) – Colorado’s Senate race is heating up as the two candidates meet in a raucous debate of the campaign.

Sen Mark Udall and his Republican challenger, Rep. Cory Gardner, traded barbs before a roaring crowd during the fourth debate in the neck-and-neck race Thursday. It was the third debate of the week but stood out because the moderator encouraged the crowd to get involved.

Supporters of each man cheered and jeered as the candidates accused each other of being too extreme to represent the state. Gardner said Udall votes with President Obama 99 percent of the time. Udall said Gardner has been ranked the 10th most conservative congressman, to the right of former Rep. Tom Tancredo.

Ballots will arrive next week and the race could decide which party controls the Senate.
