The Tennessee Highway Patrol closed Interstate 24 westbound from Moore Road to the Ridgecut this morning to conduct an investigation into a Georgia State Patrol chase and car wreck that happened on Monday.

On Monday, Georgia troopers chased a suspect from Catoosa County, Ga. to the Ridgecut, where the vehicle crashed into a guardrail. Soon after the wreck, Chattanooga police were called to a carjacking with injuries.

Desiree Hester, 19, was arrested in the carjacking. The driver of the vehicle, Tyrell Flenoy, 20, also fled the scene but has not yet been apprehended.

Hester and Flenoy are both members of the Bloods gang, according to an official with the TBI, and Flenoy should be considered armed and dangerous.

Today, THP investigators are going back to the scene of the crash to map the scene and take additional photos, said Lt. John Harmon.

The interstate is now open after being closed for about 20 minutes.

No prior notification was given to media about the closure. Electronic signs on the interstate apparently did not alert travelers to the closure ahead of time.
