The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Chattanooga fell 2.2 cents per gallon last week and remained 37 cents per gallon below the national average, according to GasBuddy.com.

The online news service, which surveys 170 gas outlets in Chattanooga and thousands of service stations nationwide, said today that the average price of fuel in Chattanooga is $2.02 per gallon, compared with the U.S. average of $2.39 per gallon.

Chattanooga gas prices average $1.34 per gallon less than at the same time a year ago.

“Motorists have seen a quiet week at the pump with gasoline prices in much of the country in gentle decline,” Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, said in a statement. “The current downward trend in the national average bucks what we were seeing a year ago when gasoline prices were in an upward trend, and what we’re seeing with prices remaining relatively low should boost motorist confidence as the summer driving season nears. It’s a good time to reiterate that I expect this summer’s gasoline prices to be at their lowest seasonal levels since 2010, and most areas will see prices at least $1 a gallon under where they were last summer.”
