The rain held off Saturday night at AT&T Field.

Birmingham’s bats did not — at least not in the first of two seven-inning games.

In the first rough outing by a Chattanooga Lookouts starting pitcher this season, Greg Peavey gave up 11 runs on 13 hits to the Barons and failed to last three innings. As a result, the Lookouts suffered a 11-5 blowout loss.

But then D.J. Baxendale and Zack Jones combined to pitch a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and the Lookouts won 1-0 on Travis Harrison’s first-inning RBI hit. Chattanooga managed only four hits also, but three of them were singles in the first against Junior Guerra.

“It just wasn’t his night,” Lookouts pitching coach Stu Cliburn said about Peavey. “His ball was elevated a little bit, and they capitalized on it with some good hitting. He just needed to get the ball down and locate it where he needed to. This isn’t to make an excuse, but he’s had a few days in between starts, but we’ll get back on this five-day schedule and get back where we need to be.
