After 12 years, Dennis Plumlee closed his North Chatt Cat bar on Frazier Avenue this week. The 59-year-old restaurateur, who has managed or owned local restaurants for the past four decades, said after three knee surgeries and a shoulder surgery he decided to give up the long hours of running his own bar.
Plumlee said Tuesday he has sold the bar at 436 Frazier Ave. to Lisa Bowen and Vanessa Knight, who are renovating the North Chattanooga storefront before reopening the restaurant.
“I want to spend some time getting back to full health and the sale just made sense at this time,” Plumlee said.
Plumlee said he used his high school nickname, North Chatt Cat, for the bar he acquired in 2003. The building has previously housed the Rustic Room, Coral Reef and Monkey Business over the past few decades. It was originally built as a plumbing supply business in the 1920s.
