Chattanooga firefighters put out a fire at Orange Grove Recycling Center around 3 p.m. today.

The fire started while workers were performing maintenance on a conveyor belt and then spread to some recyclables, said spokeswoman Robin Derryberry.

The fire was small but resulted in large amounts of smoke because much of the burning material was plastic, she said in a release.

All staff, workers and students were evacuated and no one was harmed.
