During a traffic stop in Marion County, Tenn., on Wednesday, authorities discovered 2.5 pounds of meth hidden in a car, according to a news release from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The driver of the car was a 31-year-old man and he was accompanied by a 50-year-old man. The identities of the men have not been released as the investigation is ongoing, but the release said they were both of Cuban descent.
The car, a 2002 BMW, was initially stopped on I-24 westbound for having an illegal window tint, following too close to traffic and not wearing a seatbelt, the release said.
After talking with the driver, the trooper “was alerted to possible indicators suggesting criminal activity,” the release said. The driver gave the trooper permission to search the vehicle.
During the search, troopers discovered 2.5 pounds of meth/ice in the dashboard under the steering column.
Both the driver and the passenger have been booked into custody at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. They both invoked their right to council and refused to answer additional questions. The release said the car was on it’s way from Miami to Louisville.
