There were no major threats to the environment at Harrison Bay State Park when a barge sank over the weekend, said a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
When the barge sank, Hamilton County’s hazardous materials team put a containment boom around the site to prevent any potential oil spills from infiltrating the water.
The boat ramp was closed when officials were working on the barge.
Rain slowed down the process of getting the barge out of the water, but it was finally raised at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the TDEC spokeswoman said. A contractor was working on pumping water from the barge. When that is done, the barge will be moved to the shore to make repairs.
Haz-mat officials were present when the barge was lifted, and they determined no oil or fuel was spilled and no fish were killed.
