QUARTERBACKS

Tennessee rides into the season with Josh Dobbs at the helm. This offseason, the junior has embraced his new role as the program’s face, sharpened his throwing mechanics and developed into a reliable leader. After saving last season, Dobbs will have to have a big season throwing and running for Tennessee to live up to the expectations.

Behind Dobbs are two promising freshmen. Backup Quinten Dormady impressed in spring practice after enrolling and continued to look sharp in preseason training camp, generating some excitement of what he can do when he gets a chance to play. Sheriron Jones has the mobility and athletic prowess to be a good fit in this offense, but he’s still playing catch-up.

RUNNING BACKS

In 2014, it essentially was Jalen Hurd or bust for Tennessee at running back, and whenever the freshman was out of a game, the Vols suffered a noticeable drop-off. Now Alvin Kamara is the mix, and the former Alabama player appears eager to make the most of his second chance in the SEC. Hurd is the power back; Kamara is the home-run threat.
