What: An open house was held at the 6th Cavalry Museum in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., to celebrate the completion of renovations funded by a $116,000 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax grant from Catoosa County, which was awarded in 2008. Representatives of the Catoosa and Walker County Chambers of Commerce sponsored a ribbon cutting, which was performed by four World War II veterans.

Benefits: The grant funded renovations to make the museum handicap accessible and Americans with Disabilities Act compliant: a wheelchair lift, three handicap-accessible restrooms and catering kitchen. Additionally, museum board member Durinda Cheek told the 100 guests that the second-floor area may now be used for traveling exhibits, school programs, art shows and receptions.
