Even James Rogers is surprised to be marking the 14th year of doing his Christmas special “Home for Christmas.” He’s not surprised that nearly every show has been a sell-out or that many of the same people come every year.

What catches him off-guard is the longevity of the series.

He had no way of knowing back in 2002, when he did the first show, that he’d still be doing it, or that he would still be having as much fun with it. This year’s show is tonight, Dec. 17 at the Colonnade in North Georgia.

“It’s become quite a tradition, and that makes me feel good,” he says. “I get to see old friends and family, and quite frankly, if I didn’t see them at this, I don’t know when I would see them.”

As in past years, Rogers will do many of the songs that made him a popular draw in theaters in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for many years, as well as a string of holiday favorites.

Rogers will do duet via videotape with Dolly Parton appearing on the big screen. The two will sing “Beyond the Call,” the song Rogers wrote to honor Medal of Honor recipients.

The song is the title cut on Rogers’ new CD. It also contains a new song Rogers wrote in honor of his grandchild called “Child of My Child.”

John Stokes of Save Our American Raptors, which does shows at Rock City, will bring Osceola the eagle to the Colonnade show as well.

Television personality Chip Chapman, who has hosted nearly every “Home for Christmas” concert, will emcee the evening.
