WRCB reports a Flood Watch continues across all of north Georgia until 7 p.m. Friday. See today’s forecast here.
UPDATE AT 11:30 a.m.
Polk County Mayor Hoyt Firestone said he’s on his way to Copperhill and is consulting with the county’s emergency managment agency. The bridges across the Ocoee/Toccoa River are closed, he said and “there’s water in the streets” but he doesn’t yet know how much.
A Copperhill dispatcher said authorities closed the streets for safety.
“Right now it’s just a serious situation but it could turn into an emergency situation,” the dispatcher said.
Earlier reporting:
Copperhill is flooding as the Ocoee River breaches its banks, according to a Polk County dispatcher.
Emergency responders have closed the Highway 68/Highway 60 intersection and don’t yet know the extent of the overflow.
“It’s flooding pretty good right now,” the dispatcher said, adding that no one is believed to be in danger.
This is a developing story.
