A contract worker suffered serious injuries during a routine maintenance job Tuesday on the Baylor School's campus.
The worker experienced "severe trauma" after a concrete tank malfunctioned and launched a piece of metal into his face around 11:11 a.m., said Chattanooga Fire Department Captain Chuck Hartung.
Firefighters responded four minutes later to 172 Old Signal Mountain Road to transport the man, whose name was not released, to Erlanger hospital, Hartung said. Nearby workers on the scene were stunned and declined to comment.
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, Hartung said he'd heard of no change in the man's condition.
