Chattanooga-area families can ring in 2016, albeit 12 hours early, at Creative Discovery Museum’s annual New Year’s at Noon celebration today, Dec. 31.

The celebration includes a countdown with Father Time and Baby New Year and a colorful confetti drop at the strike of noon, a more reasonable hour for the younger set. Kids also can toast the new year with apple juice and perform a one-of-a-kind rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” on kazoos.

“New Year’s at Noon is a great way to celebrate the New Year with kids,” says Jayne Griffin, the museum’s director of education. “The event allows children to experience the passage of time and a traditional adult event in a fun, child-friendly setting.”

At 1 p.m., Father Time will lead guests in an energetic dance party followed by an extravaganza of indoor child-friendly “fireworks” by stomping on yards of bubble wrap. Children also can make hats, wands and shakers throughout the event.

New Year’s at Noon draws a crowd to the museum, so visitors are encouraged to arrive no later than 11 a.m. to enjoy the noontime activities. For the comfort and safety of guests, museum officials say they’ll limit attendance to no more than 1,000 people in the building at a time. Doors will reopen after 12:30 p.m. to allow other guests inside.

All activities are included with regular admission.

The museum also will be open noon to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1. And the current exhibit, “Winter Wonders,” will close Monday, Jan. 4.
