Gang, hope this finds you well.
We’re 364 days from Recruitmas 2016. Man, it’s really that soon?
From the “Talks too much” studios, let’s get this thing started – and remember the mailbag.
Signing Day fallout
Here’s a look at 247sports composite rankings.
It’s interesting. Let’s throw out some superlatives of our own:
Best class: We think Alabama has the deepest and most complete class that has high end talent across the field and on each side of the ball. Even the biggest Nick Saban hater has to simply tip their visor and say he’s the best recruiter ever.
Most talented class: USC could make an argument to having the most importune class considering it’s the Trojans first full class since the Pete Carroll/Reggie Bush NCAA fall out. You can argue its the best class, too, after closing with a flurry. That said, it would not shock anyone if there are three first-round picks in the 2018 draft that signed their papers with USC Wednesday.
Biggest class: Tennessee needed a second consecutive class to complete the restocking process. Mission accomplished. Plus, the huge additions across each line is staggering.
Best finish: Auburn landed the nation’s top player and five other four-star players in the final 24 hours to move into the top 10 of the national rankings.
We will have some of our worsts around lunch. Deal? Deal. (That’s provided we can get the system to accept a comment, so there’s that.)
As for the local superlatives, well, we’re proud of all the kids locally that earned the chance to extend the dream of playing meaningful football games at the next level.
In truth, the hubbub and craziness of national signing day and the drama created by the select few in a big-picture sense have warped this process for the majority of us. College football recruiting is undoubtably important – Nick Saban and Alabama are not running super secret plays like the Annexation of Puerto Rico; they are whipping people with talent – but the growing feeling after a day trolling the interwebs looking for the latest tidbit about a teenage male’s latest mind change increasingly makes us want to take a shower.
And that’s sad on a lot of levels.
It’s not going away of course, since the only two online destinations that continually make money from subscription fees are 1) college football recruiting sites and 2) porn. There’s a market for sure.
But the craziness really deviates the cool for the vast majority of the kids that are putting ink on paper and color to the dream Wednesday.
So it goes maybe, but congrats to the young fellows from this area who have let the TFP share their stories and now we can follow them to the next level, whether that’s in Starkville, Tempe, up the street, Kennesaw or Arkansas Baptist.
That’s what we should be celebrating the most on signing day.

Sherman the daddy
Richard Sherman and his girlfriend had a son this morning congrats.
Sherman, who has become one of the 5-at-10’s favorite players, said if the baby had been born on Sunday during the Super Bowl, he would have missed it. (Side note: No word if the boy had been born on Monday and saw his shadow if he would have returned to where he came from and we would have had six weeks of winter. Forget Punxsutawney Phil if you have Seattle Sherman, right?)
Anyhoo, the story made us think about the time that Phil Mickelson was prepared to leave the final round of the U.S. Open if his wife gave birth as he was trying for his first major. (The Mickelsons had a girl the Monday after the ’99 Open.)
Would you skip the Super Bowl or the chance to win a major championship for the birth of your child? Discuss.

Tiger
OK, just when you thought it could not get worst for Tiger Woods, who shot his worst round as a pro last Friday with a shanktastic 82, comes this video.
Yep, that’s Tiger Woods – TIGER Flippin’ WOODS mind you – getting short game tips from Billy Horschel and Pat Perez.
Tiger Woods checks his swing positions while warming up before the pro-am at the Farmer Insurance Open golf tournament at Torrey Pines, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, in San Diego. Watching and working with Woods are fellow tour player Billy Horschel, left, and Woods’ coach, Chris Como, right. (AP Photo/Lenny Ignelzi) Sweet buckets of chili peppers up Lee Janzen’s tucks, what in the Sam Hill (and who is Sam Hill) is going on here?
Woods was the face of golf for more than a decade and was arguably the most popular athlete on the planet post-Jordan, pre-LeBron. Dude has made a billion – yes billion with a ‘B’ – dollars and has 14 majors.
And he’s getting impromptu tips from two guys who have never been in my kitchen. Allegedly. Because to be truthful if Billy and/or Pat visited the 5-at-10 compound, we’re pretty sure we would not recognize either one of them.
Yep, this is way worse than we thought.
Tiger getting tips from Billy and Pat is like Screech Powers or Gary Coleman working with Robert Duvall on his lines.
Somebody pour me a Co-Cola.

This and that
– We did not mention it about in our recruiting rant, but for you Johnny Mocs Fans, we will get into more detail Friday about the UTC class (mailbag people, mailbag). We also believe the three transfers – especially Drae Bowles at receiver and former UAB tight end Steve Pickren will find the field right out of the gate.
– The NBA player of the month for January was the entire Hawks starting five. That was a cool and proper gesture for the first team in NBA history to go 17-0 in a month.
– LeBron coming off the bench? We would not bet on that, but the message LeBron is sending is clear and direct. It’s also on schedule considering we are heading toward the All-Star break, and the Cavs are winning and he still knows they need to improve on the floor more than they need to improve in the standings. It feels like James has had a plan all along about the growth of this bunch, you know?
– You read the headline “Gronk chugs a beer while wearing a Minion beanie” and you have to click, right? Some one from the Miller Brewing Company needs to contact Gronk – dude is living the High Life.

Today’s question
Feel free to offer any signing day feedback or rhetoric or analysis.
Also, have you sent in your mailbag question?
Sunday night, AMC will debut “You Better Call Saul” the spinoff from the wildly successful “Breaking Bad” series. We’re most definitely going to give a look to “Saul” – which centers on the story of Saul Goodman, Walter White’s attorney, and Saul’s wrestles with justice and cashing checks. We have very lofty hopes.
Which begs the question: What’s the Rushmore of TV Spinoffs?
Go.
