Chattanooga City Councilman Chris Anderson is proposing a resolution in opposition to a proposed state law that would prohibit municipalities from recognizing unions or entering into collective bargaining with such organizations.
Sen. Brian Kelsey, R-Germantown, introduced SB 123 on Jan. 15. The proposed bill says a municipal government shall not "recognize any labor union or employee association as a bargaining agent of the employees or officers of the municipality or county" or enter into collective bargaining.
The proposed law would also render void any current agreements in the state.
At Chattanooga Fire Station No. 1, 218 E. Main Street, today, Anderson unveiled a proposed resolution that asks the City Council to formally oppose the legislation, calling the Senate bill a "threat to local control."
