A man suspected in the Jan. 15 armed robbery that occurred at the Dollar General store at 3441 Corporate Drive has been arrested, Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office reports.

On Jan. 15, at approximately 10 p.m., a white male subject entered the Dollar General wearing a red mask over his face. The suspect had a pistol in his hand and demanded the clerk open the cash register and give him the money. Upon obtaining about $200 cash the suspect fled back out the door.

Deputy David Headrick developed information indicating Johnny Maddox Jr. was the suspect that committed the robbery. On Wednesday, a search warrant was executed at a relative’s residence where he had been staying on Carol Joyce Drive, Dalton. Maddox was taken into custody at the time the search warrant was executed.

Officers were able to locate the “fake” pistol he used in the armed robbery. The mask used in the robbery was located on Cross Plains Blvd. where it had been discarded on the side of the road.

At this time investigators believe Maddox acted alone in the robbery. He has been charged with armed robbery and is being detained in the Whitfield County Jail.
