A medical examiner’s report revealed that a truck driver who appeared to have slumped over his steering wheel before crashing into another vehicle died of injuries sustained during the Friday accident, according to a news release distributed today by the Chattanooga Police Department.

William Grant died Friday after a head-on collision with an SUV on West 38th Street. Witnesses said the driver appeared to be slumped over in the car before the collision.

Grant traveled south on Alton Park Boulevard and suddenly veered left off the roadway into a vacant lot. The truck continued through the vacant lot and onto W. 38th St. striking an SUV that traveled west bound on West 38th Street.

Grant was unresponsive on the scene and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. No charges will be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
