Funeral services planned for slain sheriff’s corporal

HIRAM, Ga. (AP) – The funeral for a sheriff’s officer killed in a murder-suicide is planned at a church northwest of Atlanta.

Services for Cpl. Sam Driskell will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at West Ridge Church in Dallas, Georgia.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been speaking with relatives, friends and neighbors to determine what may have prompted the shooting at the officer’s home in the Hiram area.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ashley Henson says authorities suspect that Driskell’s 21-year-old stepson, Felix Almonte, shot Driskell, his 36-year-old wife and their 12-year-old daughter sometime late Jan. 5 and or early Jan. 6. Almonte then shot himself.
