DETROIT (AP) – A former Rotary Club president in a Detroit suburb has been sentenced to life in prison for arranging the murder of his wife so that he could focus on bondage and domination with other women.

Bob Bashara, known as “Master Bob,” showed no remorse Thursday and repeatedly declared his innocence. He told a judge, “I loved my Jane dearly.”

A sentence of life in prison without parole was automatic after a jury last month convicted the 57-year-old of first-degree murder.

Jane Bashara was strangled at the couple’s Grosse Pointe Park home in 2012. Prosecutors say Bob Bashara coerced a handyman into killing her so he could be with other women.

Judge Vonda Evans gave a blistering rebuke, calling the defendant a “master of manipulation” with a “dark heart.”
