Authorities search for suspect in shooting

Authorities in Franklin County, Tenn., are looking for a man who sprayed homes on North High Street in Winchester with gunfire from a .223-caliber assault rifle early Tuesday.

Winchester police Chief Dennis Young said Wednesday that officers are seeking Marc Andrew Castle, 40, of Winchester, in connection with the theft of weapons from a house and the gunshots fired into the two homes.

A 70-year-old woman in one of the homes escaped injury.

A state patrol helicopter and lots of officers on foot had not found Castle by late Wednesday afternoon. Patrols in the area have been doubled until he is found, the chief said. He was last seen pushing a bicycle not far from the shooting scene on High Street.

“We’ve had lots of calls from people who think they saw him but no good leads yet,” Young said.

Castle has mental problems and has often threatened law enforcement, the chief said.

The man’s family has been “very cooperative and they have been in constant contact with us,” Young said.

Authorities consider Castle dangerous and believe he is armed.

Anyone with any information on Castle’s whereabouts should contact the Winchester-Franklin County Crime Stoppers line at 931-962-INFO (4636) or 911.
