Travelers driving Interstate 24 between Chattanooga and Nashville starting Friday night will endure some delays due to road work in Grundy County, Tenn., on and near the top of Monteagle Mountain, Tennessee Department of Transportation officials said.

Crews will begin work tonight at 8 p.m. CDT to complete steel erection on the concrete barrier wall on I-24 East and West. When that work is done, crews will begin slip-forming the wall.

Meanwhile, resurfacing work will continue from Bell Mill Road to the Marion County line, including various safety improvements and slip-lining of culverts and different locations.

For the concrete work, the contractor will close the left lane and on I-24 West from mile marker 135 to mile marker 132.3 and will also close the left shoulder on I-24 East from mile marker 131.1 to mile marker 132.7 for the entire weekend.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will help with traffic control. Traffic will return to normal on Monday at 6 a.m., officials said.
