La-Z-Boy, Inc., in Dayton, Tenn., was one of five Tennessee companies chosen to receive the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health.

TOSHA Administrator Steve Hawkins presented the award this week to the furniture maker, which employs 1,344 people at its Dayton plant – the biggest employer in Rhea County. La-Z-Boy in Dayton has worked more than 4.2 million hours without a lost-time workplace injury or illness. The site’s lost-time injury-free record dates back to March 2013.

“La-Z-Boy, Inc. has demonstrated strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” Hawkins said. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”
