An East Brainerd man is charged with making moonshine after agents with the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission and deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office found a still and containers of liquor in his home.
Michael Clayton Cameron, 40, was behind bars on burglary-related charges when authorities on March 3 executed a search warrant on his house at 9305 Fuller Road. His girlfriend, Heather Greeson, was present, according to the affidavit.
Agents found an illegal moonshine still, several containers of fermenting mash and other items used to manufacture alcohol. Agents also found three 1-gallon plastic jugs containing moonshine, along with several other full glass containers and bottles, the affidavit states.
Cameron will appear before General Sessions Judge Gary Starnes on Tuesday. According to Hamilton County records, Cameron has an extensive list of drug possession charges and traffic violations dating back to 1994.
Greeson told authorities that Cameron was the only person who made the moonshine, and that she had been living with him for about three months. Over that time, she said, he made three or four “runs” of moonshine with the still, and that each run produced about one-half-gallon.
Asked by authorities if Cameron ever gave away or sold the moonshine, she responded that he occasionally gave some to his uncle, according to the affidavit.
Greeson was issued a criminal citation to appear in Hamilton County General Sessions Court.
A spokeswoman said the sheriff’s office could not comment because the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission was leading the investigation.
According to a secretary at the local ABC office, no investigators were available to comment Friday.
