Chattanooga Zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave., will bid farewell to two longtime residents at a chimpanzee going-away party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9.

Adult chimps Goliath and Randi, who’ve been in Chattanooga since 2001, will leave Wednesday, May 13, to live with a larger chimpanzee group at the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend, Ind. Their move has been coordinated with the Species Survival Plan, a population management and conservation plan for endangered species.

“Joining the larger social group will allow these animals to live more naturally and grow as intelligent individuals within their troop,” says a news release.

Activities, which include chimpanzee enrichment, keeper chats and goodbye cards made by guests, are free with regular admission.

A new group of chimps will arrive soon, according to Chattanooga Zoo officials.
