A 44-year-old Hixson man is in jail on charges of statutory rape today.

Wendell Duncan, 44, is accused of repeatedly raping a girl seven years ago and again recently.

The girl’s mother contacted Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday and said Duncan assaulted her daughter while she was away at work.

Duncan turned himself in to authorities and told detectives on the case that he “admits to whatever [the girl] accused him of doing.” He declined to speak further without an attorney.

Detectives also discovered text messages that Duncan apparently sent to a friend in which he claims he abused the girl. In the messages, someone texting under Duncan’s name said, “I’m a child molester. I’ve abused [girl’s name].”

He also expressed remorse for his alleged actions.

He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail and is being held on a $450,000 bond. He is charged with rape and aggravated statutory rape.
