Police told residents in a Rossville neighborhood Wednesday to lock their doors and get to a safe place because officers had become involved in a nearby standoff.
Suspect Timothy Pam was arrested during the standoff, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson and Rossville police Chief Sid Adams.
Police said they had been after Pam for a few weeks after they tried to arrest him for driving a car that had been reported stolen.
U.S. marshals eventually were able to locate Pam by pinging his cellphone. That ping led them to a house on Brown Avenue. They staked out the location and saw three people leaving, then confirmed Pam was inside.
The SWAT team arrived and called out to Pam, who didn’t respond. Forty-five minutes later, police shot cans of gas through his window, but Pam still didn’t come out.
Finally, SWAT officers burst inside, where they located Pam in a closet. He had covered his face with a mattress and bed covers, shielding him from the gas, according to authorities.
Pam was charged with bringing stolen property into Georgia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and obstruction of justice.
Walker County Emergency Medical Services, Georgia State Patrol, Rossville Police Department and Walker County sheriff’s personnel all were seen outside the home on Brown Avenue, which is off McFarland Avenue.
