SWAT responds to 44th Street shooting

A party turned violent early Saturday morning when a fight broke out between two men.

The Chattanooga Police Department said in a release that Charles Moore, 24, and Robert Murphy, 27, were partying together when a fight broke out. According to Moore, Murphy struck him in the head with a pipe and he lost consciousness. When he came to, Moore said he tried to leave the residence at 2600 E. 44th St. when Murphy fired several rounds from a handgun at him. Murphy then went back inside.

When officers responded to the scene, Murphy wouldn't surrender or come outside. The SWAT team was notified and was on the way when Murphy came outside and surrendered without incident.

Murphy was charged with attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing.
