COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) – After playing thousands of concerts across the world, Elton John is coming to Columbus for his first time for a concert on March 16 at the Civic Center.
In a news release from the Columbus Civic Center, John says the concert, which is part of a nine-city tour, will feature his iconic hits and classic album tracks from his five-decade career.
John says the short tour is a win-win situation for him as he enjoys more time with his family but also getting the chance to bring his music to fans.
The Grammy-winning artist has a home in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood.
“The simple truth is I want to spend more time with my family and less time touring,” John said. “I am all too aware of how precious the time ahead is. My sons are growing up so quickly. Their early years are just flying by and I want to be there with them.”
Civic Center Director Ross Horner tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (http://goo.gl/nLzlE3 ) that ticket prices will be announced next week.
Horner said he’s been working to get John to Columbus for about four years.
The Civic Center can hold over 8,500 people for large concerts, Horner said.
Horner has seen John in concert and described the experience as unique.
“You’ll have a smile from the time you hit the door until probably a week after the show,” he said. “He makes sure every show is amazing.”
