A Franklin County, Tenn., man will serve 15 years in state prison after pleading guilty to arson and assault charges.

The charges against John W. Worley, 25, stem from his attempt in October 2014 to set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s house located outside of Winchester. The ex-girlfriend was inside the home at the time, according to a statement released from the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance.

Tennessee Bomb & Arson Section agents assisted Franklin County authorities in gathering evidence in the case.

According to officials, Worley will receive a sentence of five years in a state prison for each count, to be served consecutively. The 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office accepted Worley’s guilty plea on Sept. 24.

“This is another good example of teamwork between our investigators and local law enforcement partners that will ehlp make Tennessee a safer place,” Deputy Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance Gary West said.
