MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Chattanooga Christian School advanced to the final four of the 2015 Class A/AA girls’ soccer state tournament Thursday, edging Christ Presbyterian Academy on penalty kicks in a quarterfinal match.
The District 7-A/AA runner-up and Region 4 champion Lady Chargers (16-5-3), making their fifth straight state tournament appearance, battled the Lady Lions to a 0-0 tie through regulation and extra time before ultimately capturing a victory winning the PK shootout 3-2.
“I knew this was going to be a solid team with solid tactics and solid technique – we knew that coming in,” CPA coach Tom Gerlach said. “Coach Cal (Sneller) does a great job, and I came in thinking if we lose, we’re losing to a quality team.”
Addie Henry, Leah Hoffman and Kyra Duble and converted their penalty kicks for the Lady Chargers, while CCS freshman goalkeeper Kate Dirkse, who was inserted in net for the shootout, turned away attempts from Carli Cone, Olivia Ball and Joy Morgan.
Chattanooga Christian finished with just five shots on goal, while starting goalkeeper Marissa Lewis tallied nine saves for the Lady Chargers. They face Christian Academy of Knoxville in a semifinal today at 5:30 p.m. EDT. CPA wound up 16-2-1.
