Jacob Huesman and Derrick Craine combined for 271 yards rushing, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offense piled up 547 total yards in a 41-13 homecoming victory over Western Carolina Saturday.
The Mocs improved to 7-1 and 5-0 in the Southern Conference based on the strength of a first half in which they had 384 yards of total offense. Derrick Craine scored all four of his touchdowns in the first 30 minutes, becoming the first Moc to score four times since Artis Edwards had four against Appalachian State on Nov. 6, 1982.
Huesman completed all 10 of his passes for 169 yards, while rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown. His 49-yard completion to James Stovall in the second quarter made him the all-time leader in passing yards in a career, passing Chris Sanders (1999-00).
The scores helped the Mocs build a 35-6 edge at the half.
Henrique Ribeiro added field goals from 38 and 30 yards in the second half.
Huesman finished with 168 yards rushing, while completing 14 of his 15 passes for 191 yards. Craine had 103 yards on the ground as the Mocs rushed for a season-high 356 yards.
Defensively, the Catamounts had 283 yards of total offense, and the Mocs forced a pair of turnovers on a Dee Virgin forced fumble that was recovered by safety Cedric Nettles, and an interception by Trevor Wright which was the first of the sophomore’s career.
Catamount quarterback Troy Mitchell had 178 yards passing and a touchdown. He added 57 yards rushing. Detrez Newsome rushed for 39 yards and a score.
