Two big gospel gatherings are scheduled this weekend in North Georgia.
First up is the three-day Heavenly Jubilee at the newly renovated Patriot Hall, 320 Emberson Drive in Ringgold. Some 180 soloists and groups will take the stage during the celebration. The event opens with a meet and greet from 9 a.m. to noon today, Aug. 4, then performances run from noon to 10 p.m. Performances Friday and Saturday are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Organizer Pat Hookey says each act gets only 10 minutes onstage, “but we have a lot of fun. It’s just a fellowship, anniversary singing and [musical] worship service all in one.”
Admission is $5 and seven nonperishable food items. For more information, call 423-320-6538.
Also on Saturday is the Tri-State Gospel Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Parkway Baptist Temple, 65 Stuart Road in Fort Oglethorpe.
The Hall of Fame was started in 2005 by founder/president Herb Oliver. The induction of 11 new members this year brings the total number of regional luminaries to 168. This year’s class of inductees are Ray Branham, Lynn Epperson, Earl Freudenberg, Wayne Guffey, E.W. Haney, Marcia Hughes, Jeremy Peace, Jack Rowan, David Sutton, Hovie Walker and Mike Young.
The Rebels Quartet, the Hall of Fame Choir and the Hall of Fame Scrap Iron Quartets (men and women) will perform during the ceremony.
