Two former Alabama football players will transfer to Kansas.
Charles Baldwin, the No. 1 junior-college offensive tackle in the 2016 signing class, said Friday that he would continue his career with David Beaty’s Jayhawks. Baldwin went through spring practice with the Crimson Tide but was dismissed in May for violating team rules.
“Kansas is excited for me to come in, and I’m excited to go there,” Baldwin told 247Sports.com. “I’m going to learn the playbook and work hard this season, and then it will be time to rock and roll next year.”
Baldwin has to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules and has two years of eligibility remaining.
Also headed to Kansas, which went 0-12 last season and has lost 15 consecutive games, is receiver Daylon Charlot. The sophomore decided earlier this week to leave Tuscaloosa after a freshman season in which he appeared in five games and caught two passes for 9 yards.
Charlot also must sit out the upcoming season, and Tide coach Nick Saban expressed disappointment with his departure during a Thursday news conference.
“Daylon made really good progress here,” Saban said. “I just wish he would have had a little more patience to hang in there. I think he would have been a great contributor here, and I think he’ll have a good career wherever he chooses to go.”
Charlot announced his new destination via Twitter.
Alabama held its second preseason practice Friday afternoon, working out for two hours in helmets and shorts. Bo Scarbrough, who battled cramps in Thursday’s opening practice, was back to full speed in the portion of the workout open to media.
