WASHINGTON (AP) – Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals has not allowed a hit through six innings against the Cleveland Indians.

Center fielder Ben Revere preserved Scherzer’s no-hit bid with a leaping catch against the wall to rob Roberto Perez of extra bases leading off the sixth.

The game was scoreless, as Cleveland pitcher Trevor Bauer had yielded only two hits through five innings Tuesday night, including a single by Scherzer.

Scherzer has faced 19 batters, one more than the minimum, and struck out eight. The Indians’ only baserunner was Tyler Naquin, who walked in the fifth.

Jose Ramirez tried to bunt his way on leading off the fifth, but Scherzer made a barehanded play to get the out at first.

Scherzer threw two no-hitters last season, against the Pirates on June 20 and the Mets on Oct. 3. He tied a major league record this year with 20 strikeouts May 11 against Detroit, his former team.
