The game is starting to feel like high school again for University of Tennessee at Chattanooga receiver Dejuan McQuarters.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound speedster from Memphis had perhaps his best day as a Moc in the team’s second preseason scrimmage Saturday, hauling in three passes for 102 yards and a touchdown at Finley Stadium.
Now a sophomore on the field, McQuarters is in a battle with classmates Wil Young and Bingo Morton for what UTC coach Russ Huesman calls the “No. 5 and No. 6” spots in the receiver rotation.
“I think Dejuan has had one of the best camps we’ve had,” offensive coordinator Jeff Durden said. “He’s a small guy, but we’d really like to see him play more physical. The passing game is not a problem. He’s using what he’s good at – his speed. He can run by you, so we’re really pleased with his camp.”
After the scrimmage, Huesman said it was good for McQuarters to have “the success he had today.”
