Do you have a favorite dish that guests swoon over at parties? Does your spread at tailgates always prompt a bevy of compliments?

Now you can share your skills with the community by submitting recipes for the first Eagle Cookbook, a fundraiser for the Signal Mountain Sports Boosters.

Anyone in the community is welcome to submit recipes through the school website by Sept. 30, said Sports Boosters volunteer Arlina Hensley. There is no limit to the number of recipes you can submit.

In the 15 years she has lived on the mountain, Hensley said she has made many friends who are great cooks, and she’ll often go to dinner parties and fall in love with friends’ dishes, but never ends up following through on getting the recipes as she had intended. Thus the idea was born for the Eagle Cookbook, which will serve as a central location for finding all the community’s favorite recipes.

“Since this is such a tight-knit community, I thought it would be fun to be able to recognize the names of people who submitted the recipes,” said Hensley, adding that she can picture the book sparking compliments from one mom to another in the carpool line about how much she loved the other’s pot roast. “We’re doing it to raise money, but it’s also a wonderful treat for the community.”

The cookbook will have categories for appetizers, entrées and desserts. Hensley said people are encouraged to make recipes more personal, such as including your child’s name in the title for his or her favorite dish or pregame smoothie.

In addition to recipes, the book will also feature photos of school athletes and athletic teams, as well as ads for local businesses. Ads can be traditional or include recipes, she said. The cost for a half-page ad is $100, and full-page ads are $200.

In order for the book to be published, Hensley said the Sports Boosters must receive at least 200 recipes. The books should be available to preorder by mid-October, and will be delivered in time to be given as Christmas gifts, she added.

She said money raised through the books will go into the Boosters’ general fund, which covers the cost of athletic facilities and equipment not covered by the county school system.

To submit recipes, go to typensave.com and log in with the username “SMMHS cooks” and password “SMMHS.” To place an ad, email Hensley at raggahens@aol.com.
