Take climate change seriously or else
Recently, at a local bakery, I overheard two women discussing how afraid they were of the wild fires burning on Signal Mountain. Since then, we have had the Gatlinburg tragedy. If those women I encountered at the bakery were afraid then, just wait until the president-elect takes office and implements his campaign promises about climate change.
First, he has said that global warming is a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese. From that, he has said he will put coal miners back to work by eliminating restrictions on the burning of coal via the repeal of the Clean Power Act. He promised to end the EPA as we know it, promised to cancel our participation in the Paris Climate Agreement.
We just experienced the hottest summer on record and a monthslong drought that has wells, lakes and creeks drying up. Global warming has now become local. Climate change is real. Are you scared? I am. The crisis is upon us.
