Signal Mountain residents could soon see progress made on the long-delayed improvements to James Boulevard.
The Signal Mountain Town Council was expected to award a contract for waterline improvements to Ironwood Construction & Engineering during a town hall meeting Dec. 12.
If approved, the Crossville, Tenn.-based contractor will replace four waterline systems within the town – including the one beneath James Boulevard – for a total of $999,505.
That project should herald progress on above-ground improvements to the road, which were delayed earlier this year when the Tennessee Department of Transportation made late comments requesting changes in the roadway’s subgrade requirements, said Town Manager Boyd Veal.
“Ultimately, we thought we were right at the end of that process and even sent it to TDOT for final review, and when it came back they said they wanted the base material we use in that construction to change,” he explained. “That’s what’s causing this delay.”
