One of Hamilton County’s biggest community banks will open a downtown office after Christmas as part of the redevelopment taking place on Chestnut Street near the former headquarters of Blue- Cross BlueShield of Tennessee.
Millennium Bank, which was started in 1999 as Community Trust & Banking Co. in Ooltewah and adopted its current name in April, is preparing to open a full-service, 7,000-square-foot branch on Chestnut Street. The new bank office is part of $88 million of redevelopment planned in the area by Ken and Byron Defoor, who own part of Millennium Bank and are adding a new Westin Hotel, Shula’s Steak House, Peet’s Coffee & Tea shop and other stores in the 800 block of Chestnut and Pine streets.
“We see a lot of opportunity downtown,” said Mike Haskew, president of Millennium Bank. “It’s an exciting area with a lot of development going on and we think it is going to be a good move to generate more activity and visibility.”
The new branch will be the fourth for Millennium Bank. With assets of more than $159.1 million as of Sept. 30, Millennium Bank is the ninth biggest among the 17 banks that operate in Hamilton County.
The bank has its headquarters in Ooltewah and added an East Brainerd branch in 2002 and a Hixson branch in 2004.
