Chamber council donates to Brown Academy

At a recent meeting of the Downtown Council of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, Brown Academy Principal Emily Baker shared some of the challenges faced by academy students and the school’s needs. One was to supplement the school’s clothes closet in order to provide as many new uniforms as possible for students.

Council President Joey Greer presented Baker with a check for $1,000 to seed that effort, along with additional funds from the council’s board members and meeting attendees. In addition, Greer said the council has set a goal to assist Brown Academy in providing uniforms for each of its students. The cost will be an additional $6,000, and the council will partner with downtown businesses to reach that goal. To learn more about the effort, join the Downtown Council at its Jan. 5 meeting at 7:45 a.m. in the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.
