Ringgold resident Paul Croft is troubled by the idea of duplexes coming into his neighborhood. His and several other residents’ opposition put a halt on local developer Lee Tubbs’ plans for a duplex on North Guyler Street, right off of Nashville Street.
“In the Catoosa County area there is a huge need for affordable housing,” Tubbs told the Ringgold City Council when bringing a request to rezone the piece of property to allow for the duplex. “At this point it seems they are against affordable housing.”
The matter was tabled and will be discussed in upcoming city council meetings. The council is awaiting word from the city attorney on whether it would constitute spot zoning.
If approved, the duplex would be near already existing condos and apartments, Tubbs said.
“I don’t care how nice they are; they are duplexes,” Croft said in opposition to Tubbs’ request during the meeting. “Would you want one by your home?”
