The Signal Mountain Town Council is looking into the possibility of loosening restrictions on citizen subcommittees formed for specific projects to better the town.
Under the current ordinance, only two subcommittees created under the Citizens’ Advisory Board, like the Centennial Celebration Committee, can exist at once. Such committees are limited in their lifespan, as is the duration of members’ appointments.
Mayor Dick Gee said during the Town Council’s most recent meeting that the town’s staff is constantly busy, and he doesn’t want the existing limitations to prevent citizens from participating and contributing with their time and ideas.
“It’s frustrating to me and the staff to not be able to respond to good ideas,” he said.
As the council debates and works on the ordinance in the coming months, said Gee, he and the council will be seeking volunteers to participate in committees on how to improve the town.
