A trio from the Marinus Ensemble, a variable group of chamber musicians, will perform Tuesday, Feb. 23, as Covenant College closes out its inaugural season of the John Hamm Performing Arts Series.

The performance features Amy Yang, a pianist hailed as “a magnificent artist and poet”; Hye-Jin Kim, a violinist of “heart-stopping and unrivaled beauty”; and the return of soprano Sarah Shafer and her “luminous voice.” The artists will close their residency on campus with a concert of Schubert, Holst, Saint-Saëns and Ravel.

The series is named for former Covenant professor Dr. John Hamm and is coordinated by David Tahere, assistant professor of music. Hamm served in the music department at Covenant for more than 30 years. During his tenure, Hamm was known for his investment in the Chattanooga music community, including founding Choral Arts of Chattanooga in 1985. The series seeks to carry on Hamm’s legacy of engaging with and giving back to the local music community.

Tuesday’s performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel on the Lookout Mountain, Ga., campus, 14049 Scenic Highway. Recital tickets are available, free of charge, by completing a ticket request form at www.covenant.edu/calendar/all/2016/02/23, by emailing music@covenant.edu, or by calling 706-419-1459.
