City Beat: A weekend tale of fire and ice

It's no joke. Make sure your fire is out before you dump the ashes or walk away. It only takes a few minutes, or seconds, to cause a major problem.

How was your weekend? Mine was eventful, thanks for asking.

Let’s just say heat was a theme from start to finish.

The inducer fan on our heat pump finally gave up the ghost last Friday night. The next morning, I found a replacement online and chose to pay $36 for two-day shipping (more on that later).

For fun, and to get out of the cold house, my wife and I drove to the big store in Fort Oglethorpe that has everything from car tires to groceries. You know the place. Apparently, the day before Valentine’s is a big shopping day at this place. At 2 p.m., it was like shopping in the infield at Talladega. Lots of people and lots of camo.

When we got home, I got a text from the fan supplier saying he would ship the item on Monday to arrive on Wednesday.
